    This is a dreadful week...
    I've been seeing far too many sad stories on my f'list recently (and one of them - about Brianna Lacey, a missing 15 year old from Chicago needs all the signal boosting it can get), but this story hits far too close to home...

    We learned yesterday that [livejournal.com profile] schadenkatze, someone I've known through fandom for more than a dozen years, lost her life to in a house fire early Sunday morning. Her twin [livejournal.com profile] schaden_freude (another long-term friend, and someone who had suffered a major loss not so many years ago), was only able to help their elderly mother from the home the three shared. The house itself and almost everything it contained was, as you might imagine, a great loss, but the loss of her twin sister is...unimaginable.

    From the Springfield News-Leader:
    Three people in the home -- a mother in her 80s and two daughters -- were asleep when the fire began. Scott said the deceased -- one of the daughters -- died from smoke inhalation... The mother was in serious condition at St. John's Hospital.
    The other daughter was not reported injured.

    Through the end of the month, [dreamwidth.org profile] lunaris1013 is taking up a collection on behalf of the Seacouver Social Club (a group formed via alt.tv.highlander during the days when much of fandom centered on newsgroups). I am only too aware that times are difficult for so many people, but if you can afford to donate anything at all, paypal links can be found on Dreamwidth and LiveJournal. And if you can't afford to donate, good thoughts for her mother's recovery would be more than welcome.

    So I'm organizing the writers/writing Think Track at Frolicon this year.

    Frolicon is a convention that is a lot of fun; it's a crossover between a science fiction convention and a BDSM convention. You can see why I'm an appropriate person to be putting together some programming for it, no?

    So if you're a writer and can get yourself to Atlanta April 1-4 2010, please drop me a line if you are interested in speaking on panels and include any panel or workshop ideas you might have.

He emerged from a clump of water-weed, and swam around Charlie, gliding and spiraling around him, his tail sparkling bronzey green and blue in the sunlight. He swam so teasingly close that Charlie could feel the currents of his movement washing against his skin. Charlie reached out, grabbing his shoulder, Snape twisted and slipped away. The feel of Snape's cool flesh tingled Charlie's fingers; Charlie laughed out loud, creating a wild froth of bubbles as he took pursuit.

    A Holiday Message for Some Special People...
    It's almost the end of another year and I know I don't like to start a new year with the thought that I have debts hanging over my head. I've contacted a few of you personally. But to be honest, I'm sure there are others of you I've forgotton because my memory is not what it once was, so I'm posting here. If anyone owes me something from a charity auction or from a commission I paid for, as of today, you don't owe me anything. We're starting the new year with a clean slate. Especially for the auctions, I donated that money for a reason and was happy to do so. And I'll do it again. But, please, don't feel this is something still hanging over your head.     Okay, so I am TOTES behind in reading and thus reccing, but I just received as a gift a GEM of a story that simply cries out to be shared. :)

    A Warm Reception is today's offering in [info]3fan_holidays and it's FOR ME! *bounces* And tailor made it is, too.

    Now you all know I don't automatically rec fics for me, but this one definitely deserves it. It's Drapery, and the characterizations are perfect. Severus is dour and snide, his wit as sharp as a shiv, and he needs help. When he finds a way to get the help he requires, Harry and Draco are there, and it's clear that they have a plan to get Severus both well and into their bed (not that I blame them). But of course, Severus has his own plan. ;) Oh how I love plotting Slytherins. *g*

    Whoever this is has a deft touch with language, just the little details in the story made me smile, and their Snape voice is SPOT ON.

    Go! Read! Review! Make a writer's day! :)
