(Overdue) DC Squee, Part 3
So much for the live blogging! After my last post, things turned into one big, awesome blur. I'm going to try to report as much as I can, but I'm sure I'll leave a ton of stuff out!
When we last left our intrepid adventurers, blueberry pancakes had been eaten and
torino10154 had just arrived...
...And so much stuff happened for the rest of the weekend that I think I'd be best off just making a basic list! So...
- Not too long after my last post, we all took the dogs out for a walk and play time. It was drizzling and chilly, so we didn't go far, but the dogs were entertaining nonetheless!
- The next to arrive was
spidermoth, whose name I'd seen around IJ but with whom I'd never really interacted before. Yay for new friends, yes?!
- Lunch was a very tasty veggie chili, which
venturous said was too spicy, but which I thought was pretty much perfect with the baked potato and cheese and sour cream and avocados.
- At some point,
la_dissonance made a fabulous pumpkin chocolate layer cake; yuuuuum.
- We had pretty much stuffed ourselves silly at lunch, so we went lighter with salad and bread for dinner. I recall that the salad had pears in, and was seriously tasty.
- After dinner, there were photos taken (yay!), and
torino10154 and
spidermoth left (boo!).
- Then I somehow managed to convince everyone else to watch the first part of Tin Man. Mwahaha!
- When I got up on Sunday,
entrenous88 already had breakfast in the works. It turned out to be a wonderful egg bake with veggies in and cheese on top which we ate with pears and oranges.
- After breakfast,
spidermoth came back by and whisked
la_dissonance away to the DC Shakespeare Company's costume sale.
- A little while later,
dementordelta arrived, but I didn't get to talk with her a whole lot at first because
lesyeuxverts and I were in the kitchen making her ginger plum cheesecake (OMG so good) and my chocolate balls.
- We all piled into the car with the dogs and took them for a long walk around... uh, I don't know exactly what the place was. A big farm that you can walk around and tour? (Help me, Ven!)
- Once we were back, we sat outside and had lunch together. We decided to do salad and leftovers for lunch, since we still had curry from Friday and chili from Saturday. I do not mind leftovers in the least, especially when they're that tasty!
- In the evening, a fandom-compatible friend of
venturous's arrived with a big box of vegetables, and they cooked up a delicious veggie stir fry.
- Mixed in with all of this was drabble writing, badfic reading, and general fannish silliness. I'm now trying to figure out how we had time for all of this!!
- Unfortunately,
slashpine's flight was delayed by a couple of hours, but she made it just in time for dinner.
- There was talking about all sorts of things, both fannish and otherwise during and after dinner. And since
slashpine has a background in anthropology/archaeology, we ended up talking shop until 3:00 am! o_O
- Monday we had lovely oatmeal for breakfast, then I packed up to leave. :( There were hugs all around, and talk of putting together a Boston meet-up in March, and then
venturous took me to the train station. And thus ended one of the Best Weekends Evar, OMG.
A couple of other random things:
I never cease to be amazed at the intelligence and diversity of the people in this fandom. Some of the most brilliant conversation were had about all sorts of topics this weekend. In the middle of one of them, I recall thinking that people pay money to go to universities and participate in seminars that are less stimulating than some of our discussions. Seriously, you guys are the best.
To
venturous: Thank you so much for inviting us all into your home, and for picking me up/dropping me off at the train station. You were wonderful and welcoming, and the weekend was amazing.
To everyone else who was there: Every single one of you is fabulous and it was a pleasure getting to see some of you again, and meet many of you for the first time, and spend the weekend with you all. The time flew by too fast! Boston meet-up in March, right?!
Also,
entrenous88,
lesyeuxverts,
la_dissonance, and
venturous, your copies of Tin Man are in the mail! :D
Pictures soon!
